The Edward T. Funkhouser Photographs consists of color photographs, taken by Funkhouser, depicting the campus of North Carolina State University and nearby parts of Raleigh, North Carolina, 2001-2015. Also included are a few images of Fayetteville, NC, sites (Gen. Shelton statue, Veterans Park, Bragg Boulevard), 2014. Most of the photographs are digital images in JPG format. Edward Truman Funkhouser (1946- ) has been a professor of speech and communication at NC State University since 1977. He has also served as an administrator in the university’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a B.S. from Madison College, an M.A. from Memphis State University, and a Ph.D. from Ohio University. He has been the public address announcer for NC State football and women's basketball games. His interest in photography has resulted in the creation of thousands of images of the NC State campus; Raleigh, North Carolina; and other locales. Less

The Mary Yarbrough Papers (1825-2012) contains a variety of materials including correspondence, photographs, publications, music books, news clippings, photocopies, and artifacts, most of which document Yarbrough's life and career, as well as her family history. Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough (1904-1984) was one of the first women to receive a graduate degree (M.S. in chemistry, 1927) from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University). Mary Yarbrough served on the faculty of Meredith College for many years (1929-1972). In 1941 she received a Ph.D. and Phi Beta Kappa key at Duke University. At Meredith College she headed the chemistry and physics department, and she became an assistant director of the cooperative education program. Less

This collection consists of thirteen color photographic prints and thirteen color photographic negatives showing neighborhoods near the North Carolina State University campus in Raleigh, North Carolina. These images show an area of Raleigh roughly bounded by Hillsborough Street, Brooks Avenue, Wade Avenue, and Oberlin Road, and they date from 1970 or 1971. All items are aerial photogaphs. The photographs, probably created by Ed Caram, were taken at the request of Thomas L. Quay and Ray L. Winstead, who were conducting research on birds in suburban residential enivornments. Less

This collection contains photographic negatives of Holladay Hall, the Court of North Carolina and the 1911 Building on the North Carolina State University campus, as well as Pullen Park in Raleigh. These images are dated 1936. There are also more recent prints made from the negatives, and a CD with digital scans of the images. The CD also contains images of Hamlet, North Carolina, and an unidentified group of people, but original negatives and prints were not included with the donation of this collection. This collection contains photographs taken by Dr. Robert N. Elliott, Jr. A professional photographer by training, Dr. Elliott took the majority of these photographs during his tenure as a history professor at North Carolina State University. The photographs span from 1965 through 1985 and the bulk of the photographs were taken in the 1970s. The photographs are primarily outdoor shots in North Carolina, but images from Virginia, Georgia, and South Carolina are included. Some themes of the photographic collection include the historic sections of Raleigh and Old Salem, North Carolina; South Carolina cemeteries; beaches and waterscapes; rural landscapes; outdoor winter landscapes; North Carolina State University and University of North Carolina campuses; plants and flowers; and trees. While the collection is primarily made up of photographs, it also contains some of Elliott's drawings of rural landscapes. Dr. Robert Neal Elliott, Jr., was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1915. He was trained as a professional photographer by M. F. Dunbar. During World War II, he utilized his photography skills as a camera operator for the United States Army Air Force’s First Motion Picture Division, based in Hollywood, California. After the war, Elliott earned a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and a doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where he specialized in North Carolina history. He taught at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, from 1953 to 1956, then at North Carolina State University from 1956 until his retirement in 1981. He is the author of The Raleigh Register, 1799-1863. He maintained an active interest in photography throughout his life and on at least one occasion exhibited his photographs at North Carolina State University. Elliott died in 2003. Less
