The records of the Good Neighbor Council at North Carolina State University contain meeting minutes, correspondence, memoranda, annual reports and other reports, committee membership rosters, and other information regarding the activities of the committee in their duties to encourage employment and enrollment of qualified people without regard to race, religion, or other forms of discrimination. Materials range in date from 1966 to 1979. Founded in 1967 by North Carolina State University Chancellor John T. Caldwell, the Good Neighbor Council was charged with the responsibility of encouraging the employment of qualified people without regard to race, religion, or other forms of discrimination. The committee was also created to urge enrollment of minority students at North Carolina State University, especially African American students. As a result, the Good Neighbor Council acted as an instrument in resolving racial tensions on campus and dealing with discrimination felt by faculty, staff, and students on and off campus. The North Carolina State University Division of Student Affairs Publications contain various internal and external publications produced by the Division of Student Affairs and its committees; the division's member groups, programs, and organizations; and by North Carolina State University students. This includes newsletters, magazines, bulletins, handbooks, course catalogs, and other publications related to dining, housing, admissions, registration, financial aid, religious affairs, multicultural affairs, the arts at North Carolina State University, the Reserve Officer Training Corps, student health services, and international student affairs. A significant portion of the material consists of student media publications such as the Agromeck (yearbook), Windhover, and Red and White. The materials are dated 1889 to 2021. Working under their longstanding motto of "Students First," the North Carolina State University Division of Student Affairs works to provide "programs and services for students and the larger community to enhance quality of life, facilitate intellectual, ethical and personal growth, and create a culture which engenders respect for human diversity." In this pursuit, the member groups and programs of the Division of Student Affairs, including student media organizations, have produced a number of internal and external publications. The Faculty Senate General Records contain files of all administrative aspects of the Faculty Senate. The bulk of the records come from different committees and include materials on honorary degrees, the search for a new chancellor, Board of Trustees, Chancellor's Liasion, elections, budget, and student affairs. Also included are materials on the selection of outstanding teachers and Watauga Medal recepients, retention of African American students, Founders Day events, and other administrative functions of the Faculty Senate. The first Faculty Council meetings were held in 1923, and the Council remained in place as an ad hoc advisory board to the then College President. The records of Multicultural Student Affairs at North Carolina State University contain correspondence, event flyers, handbooks, brochures, posters, scrapbooks, and records from the administration of the Peer Mentor Program. Many of the materials pertain to the planning of the annual African American Symposium, as well as the Native American and Hispano/Latino Symposia. Materials range in date from 1979 to 2015. African-American Student Affairs was established as a department at North Carolina State University in 1984; in 2001, the department was renamed Multicultural Student Affairs after Hispanic Student Affairs and Native American Student Affairs were added. Under the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, Multicultural Student Affairs aims to create dynamic programs to promote the academic success, graduation, and retention of African American, Native American, and Latinx students. The Association for the Concerns of African American Graduate Students Records includes correspondence and information about the organization, copies of the VOICE newsletter, materials from the 1991 National Black Graduate Student Association Conference, and annual awards banquet booklets. The Association for the Concerns for African American Graduate Students was created as a student organization at North Carolina State University for all students seeking to address the needs, concerns, and interests of African American graduate students. This organization was recognized by the university in 1976 as the Association for the Concerns of Black Graduate Students. By 1983, it had become the Association for the Concerns of Afro-American Graduate Students and was renamed again in late 1984 or early 1985 as the Association for the Concerns of African-American Graduate Students. The Society of Afro-American Culture Records include information about the organization’s leadership, activities, and concerns in the form of administrative records, newsletters, newspaper clippings, national newspapers, correspondence, and event advertisements. The materials address a range of topics related directly to North Carolina State University, including wages paid to non-academic university employees, the Black Orientation program, discrimination on campus, the organization’s struggle to procure adequate space for black student organizations, and Pan-African week. The materials also pertain to the National Strike, Black Panthers and court cases, and other concerns of the larger African American community. The Society of Afro-American Culture (SAAC) was chartered with sixty-three members in 1968 as a campus organization open to all students and faculty members of North Carolina State University. It worked to promote an idea of black identity and to encourage advancement of blacks within the university, as well as to encourage nationally affiliated social fraternities and sororities on campus. The organization worked cooperatively on some initiatives with the Progressive Action Commune, Association for the Concerns of African American Graduate Students, and the Black Student Board.
