The College of Natural Resources photographs include portraits and candid shots of students and faculty in classes, labs, and outdoor settings. Prominent faculty members pictured include Carl Alwin Schenck, Richard J. Preston, and Clarence E. Libby. Photographs of meetings, conferences, events, and awards receptions are included. This collection also contains images of the buildings, laboratories, and equipment associated with the College of Natural Resources. Although the majority of the photographs are undated, these photographs range approximately from the late 1930s to the late 1990s; most are from the 1950s to the 1970s. The majority of these photographs are black and white. In 1929, North Carolina State College formally established the Department of Forestry. In 1931, the Department of Forestry was renamed the Division of Forestry, and in 1950, the Division of Forestry was elevated to School status and renamed the School of Forestry. The School of Forestry became the School of Forest Resources in 1968, and the College of Forest Resources in 1987. Finally, in 2000, the College of Forest Resources assumed its present name, the College of Natural Resources. As of 2010, the College of Natural Resources includes the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, and the Department of Wood and Paper Science.
