The William Ivey Long Honorary Materials consist of one folder of materials, dating from 2007 to 2011, that relate to William Ivey Long's achievements,. They include a program and invitation for the 14th Annual Design Guild Award Dinner at which Long was the award recipient; materials from the Cameron Art Museum's exhibit of Long's costume designs and sketches; a copy of Our State Magazine; and a News and Observer newspaper article covering a fire in Manteo, North Carolina, that destroyed the costume shop for The Lost Colony drama. Contained in this collection are packaging for ladies hosiery, and in most cases, these still contain the actual products. Most of the products were manufactured in North Carolina, and they were collected by William J. Leath. A variety of brands are represented in the collection, including Corbett, McCrary, L'eggs, Bear, Bic, and even a few international brands. These materials were displayed at the Acme-McCrary headquarters in Asheboro, N.C., prior to their donation to the NC State University Libraries. William J. Leath (1914-2003) worked in the hosiery industry in North Carolina, beginning in 1936 with Chadbourn Hosiery Mills, Inc. (earlier Rufus D. Wilson Company), and in 1958 helping found Leath, McCarthy and Maynard (LM&M). While working for Chadbourn, Leath invented stretch hosiery used in ladies nylons and pantyhose. Patents were issued for Leath's new yarn, product, and manufacturing process from 1955 to 1957. Less

The William L. Flournoy Jr. Papers, 1968-2019, document William Flournoy's career of advocating for greenways, open space conservation, and environmental causes in North Carolina. The records include information on his involvement with the Triangle Land Conservancy (TLC), Triangle Greenways Council (TGC), People for Parks (PFP), other environmental nonprofits, and North Carolina Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as other state and city government departments. The William Medway Papers, 1955-2009, is comprised of photographic slides for presentations and research, veterinary clinical reports, administrative documentation from the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine (IAAAM), and publications by Medway and other veterinary professionals. Materials document Dr. Medway's professional career at the University of Pennsylvania as a clinical educator and as a researcher in aquatic medicine. Less

The William Roy Wallace Architectural Papers, circa 1913- circa 2000, contain architectural drawings and project files that document the work of Wallace and his associates. Included are plans for homes for many Winston-Salem tobacco and textiles scions from the 1930s to 1980s as well as for their counterparts in Burlington, Greensboro, High Point and Boone. Also included are designs created for various religious, educational, and commercial clients throughout the state. Drawings from Charles Barton Keen, Wallace’s mentor and a prolific designer of homes for the Philadelphia elite, who was also a favorite architect of wealthy tobacco and textile families in North Carolina, are also included here. Also included in this collection are drawings by Wallace's son, William Roy Wallace, Jr., and it is not always clear which Wallace was the architect for a particular drawing. William Roy Wallace (1889-1983), a native of Pennsylvania, began his career in association with Philadelphia architect Charles Barton Keen (1868-1931), a designer of country houses for the Philadelphia elite. Keen created a second major body of work among the leading industrial families in the North Carolina Piedmont, including the famed Reynolda House (1912-1918) for the Reynolds family in Winston-Salem. Wallace worked with Keen as an office boy, a draftsman, and eventually as partner. In 1923 Keen and Wallace moved to Winston-Salem to manage the construction of the R. J. Reynolds High School and Auditorium. After Keen returned to Philadelphia, Wallace oversaw the Winston-Salem office and traveled back and forth from Philadelphia to supervise the firm’s many projects. Throughout the 1920s, the two architects worked on many of the great homes in Reynolda Park and Stratford Road in Winston-Salem, including the C. A. Kent House, the Robert Hanes House, and the P. Huber Hanes Sr. House. In 1928 Wallace settled permanently in Winston-Salem, where he established a practice with Harold Macklin and James M. Conrad. Like Keen, Wallace and his son William Roy Wallace, Jr., who joined the practice after World War II, continued in a Beaux Arts revivalist tradition that shaped the architectural heritage of Winston-Salem and other communities. The Wim Dekok Animal Rights Collection consists of publications, leaflets, clippings, articles, correspondence, archived web content, and photographs from national and international animal rights organizations. These materials, mostly compiled by Wim DeKok, originated in many countries, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Australia. Consequently, they are published in a variety of languages, most notably English, German, French, Dutch, and Spanish. Topics include animal cruelty, vivisection, the meat industry, strays and pet keeping, whaling, fur, and bullfighting. The collection includes correspondence from Professor Sjoerd Hofstra (1898-1983) of the Netherlands, former Chairman (1961-1973) of the World Federation for the Protection of Animals. Wim DeKok is the Co-Founder and Executive board member of the World Federation for Animals, board member of the Species Survival Network and the European Alliance for Rescue Centres and Sanctuaries and Advisory board member of ACT Asia for Animals. While working in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States, he has been active in and collected papers and documents on animal welfare and the animal rights movement for over 40 years. The Women Administrators in North Carolina Higher Education (WANCHE) Records, 1977-2001, contain correspondence, meeting minutes, committee records, publications, memoranda, notes, member lists, and other items related to the activities of Women Administrators in North Carolina Higher Education (WANCHE), an organization dedicated to advancing the careers of women college administrators and advocating diversity in educational leadership in North Carolina. These records primarily document the planning of networking events, such as conferences, workshops, and forums. Women Administrators in North Carolina Higher Education (WANCHE) was founded in May 1977 in response to the American Council on Education's National Identification Project (ACE/NIP) for the advancement of women in higher education administration. Operating as a network rather than a membership organization, WANCHE works to provide support and create opportunities for women in higher education administration and leadership. Less

The Yates Mill Associates Records contain correspondence, board of director and executive committee files, newsletters, brochures, architectural drawings, photographs, slides, videos, one cassette tape, and other items related to the Yates Mill Associates Records. Materials range in date from approximately 1946 to 2016. Yates Mill Associates, Inc. was formed in 1989. Its mission was to restore, preserve, and operate the mill. Yates Mill Associates developed partnerships with Wake County and North Carolina State University, the mill owner and guardian, to develop a park around this significant relic. Today, this community resource also includes the A. E. Finley Center for Education and Research, and a 174-acre nature preserve. Less
