The Alan Sykes Collection of NC State Athletics Publications and Memorabilia (1930-2013) contains publications from the NCSU Basketball and Football teams, NCSU memorabilia, newspapers, Agromecks, alumni magazines, and scrapbooks. The memorabilia consists of foam fingers, cups and bottles, flags, stickers, photos, and more. These materials were collected by Alan Sykes, an NC State Wolfpack fan. Athletics began officially at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts on March 12, 1892 when a football team made up of students at the college defeated the Raleigh Male Academy, a local high school, by the score 12-6. That fall, the faculty and trustees of the college first became involved with intercollegiate athletics. Since 1947 athletic teams at North Carolina State have been known as the Wolfpack. The University has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since it was formed in 1953. Less

The Charles J. Nusbaum Papers relate to Nusbaum's plant pathology research as well as interactions with his students at North Carolina State University. This collection contains Nusbaum's essays, publications, and reports, research correspondence, and materials from his classes. Materials related to the Tobacco Workers Conference are also included. Henry Leveke Kamphoefner was dean of the North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) School of Design, 1948-1973, and continued to teach architecture at North Carolina State Universtiy until 1979. Kamphoefner practiced architecture in Sioux City, Iowa, 1932-1936; was associate architect for the Rural Resettlement Administration in Washington, D.C., 1936-1937; and taught architecture at the University of Oklahoma, 1937-1948. Samuel S. Scherr (1923-2002), industrial and product designer, was president of Scherr & McDermott, a design firm working in the fields of industrial, environmental, and graphic design. In 1955 as CEO and President of Scherr & McDermott, collaborating with the International Cooperation Administration, Scherr helped establish the Korean Small Scale Industry & Handicraft Design Center in South Korea. In 1977, Samuel Scherr became the President of the American Crafts Council, a position he held for two years.
