The Bill Hansley Photographs, 1985-1990, contain 35mm negatives, 35mm slides, contact sheets, and 8x10 work prints related to events and students at North Carolina State University. These events include numerous football and basketball games as well as other sporting events such as gymnastics, fencing, soccer, and track and field. Many of the basketball games include images of Coach Jim Valvano. Other events include the North Carolina State Fair and various campus events for students. Also included are images depicting student life on campus. All photographs were taken for NC State University Student Media publications. Bill Hansley was a student at North Carolina State University from 1985-1990. While studying he worked as a photographer for two NC State University student publications, Technician and Agromeck. The John D. Mattox Papers contain photographic prints, negatives, and contact sheets, and papers depicting the personal and professional life of John D. Mattox. Personal portraits and snapshots document the lives of Mattox, his wife Mary, their son Douglas, and their extended family. Also included are photographs of the town of Wendell, North Carolina, where the Mattox family lived. The collection also includes photographs taken while Mattox served in Europe during World War II. Relating to Mattox’s professional career as a photographer at North Carolina State University, there are many images of campus scenes, student and faculty portraits, and campus publications featuring Mattox’s work. Wedding photographs, miscellaneous portraits, unidentified original and copied tintypes and cartes de visite, as well as rolled 35 mm negatives are also included. While the majority of the collection is composed of photographs, there are some papers such as news clippings, correspondence, business cards, awards, brochures, and grade reports which belonged to Mattox. John Douglas Mattox, Sr. (1911-1987) was a photographer with the Visual Aids Department at North Carolina State University from 1949 to 1974. A native of Wendell, North Carolina, Mattox attended North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in the 1930s and enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving in Europe. He married the former Mary Elizabeth Davis of Columbia, South Carolina, and had a son John Douglas Mattox, Jr., called Doug. This collection contains 3 JPG images of photographic prints of All Campus concerts at NC State University, probably in 1970 but possibly in 1971. The images show the bands Chicago Transit and Steppenwolf. There is also an email file with a description of the images. Martha Brinson earned her B.A. from NC State University in 1972. She was later Director of Communications for the University's College of Engineering, the position that she retired from in 2008. Less

The College of Natural Resources photographs include portraits and candid shots of students and faculty in classes, labs, and outdoor settings. Prominent faculty members pictured include Carl Alwin Schenck, Richard J. Preston, and Clarence E. Libby. Photographs of meetings, conferences, events, and awards receptions are included. This collection also contains images of the buildings, laboratories, and equipment associated with the College of Natural Resources. Although the majority of the photographs are undated, these photographs range approximately from the late 1930s to the late 1990s; most are from the 1950s to the 1970s. The majority of these photographs are black and white. In 1929, North Carolina State College formally established the Department of Forestry. In 1931, the Department of Forestry was renamed the Division of Forestry, and in 1950, the Division of Forestry was elevated to School status and renamed the School of Forestry. The School of Forestry became the School of Forest Resources in 1968, and the College of Forest Resources in 1987. Finally, in 2000, the College of Forest Resources assumed its present name, the College of Natural Resources. As of 2010, the College of Natural Resources includes the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, and the Department of Wood and Paper Science.
