Alexander Quarles Holladay was the first chief executive of North Carolina College for Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (1889-1899). The second chief executive was George Tayloe Winston (1899-1908). The third chief executive was Daniel Harvey Hill, Jr. (1908-1916). Wallace Carl Riddick was the fourth chief executive of the College (1916-1923). Eugene Clyde Brooks was the fifth chief exective of the College (1923-1934).

MoreThe records of John William Harrelson's administration in the Office of the Chancellor at North Carolina State College (later, University) include correspondence, financial records, and other general administrative paperwork. Topics include the consolidation of the University of North Carolina, post-World War II veteran enrollment, the design and and construction of the nuclear reactor on NC State's campus, and other general history of the campus during the time period of these records, 1933-1953. John William Harrelson was selected to head North Carolina State College in 1934 under the new title of Dean of Administration. His title changed to Chancellor in 1945, and he served that position until 1953. During his leadership, Harrelson participated in the consolidation of North Carolina's institutions of higher education. With the advent of World War II, military training played an expanding role at NC State. After 1945, the College saw expanded growth with the establishment of the School of Design and the School of Forestry, as well as the construction of a nuclear reactor. Harrelson died in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1955.

The Park Scholarships were established at North Carolina State University in 1996 with a grant from the Park Foundation of Ithaca, N.Y., to fund an inaugural class of 25 scholars. The Park Scholarships program was named for Roy H. Park, NC State University class of 1931. The Program was established to provide a superb educational opportunity for exceptionally talented and well-prepared young men and women who merit the intellectual challenge of a distinguished faculty and a superior university.

The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is NC State's chief academic officer, supporting faculty and programming that make the university a higher education leader. As executive vice chancellor, the provost is the senior executive responsible for NC State’s day-to-day activities. The provost is responsible for the university’s 10 colleges and 12 critical corollary units. It was accepted into the Tri-state Federation of Collegiate 4-H Clubs in 1941 and remained active on campus until 1943. It was dissolved in 1944 and reestablished in 1950. Members engaged in a variety of activities including fundraising and community service projects. The club also participated in state, regional, and national Collegiate 4-H conferences. The Collegiate 4-H Club remained active at NC State as of 2008.

Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) is a national honorary fraternity for professional members of state Cooperative Extension programs who have five or more years of service in a state program. North Carolina's chapter of ESP (the Xi Chapter) was established in December of 1927 after Extension workers visited the first national conference of ESP that summer and petitioned for a chapter in North Carolina. Because the Cooperative Extension program in North Carolina was overseen by NC State, the state's chapter of ESP was also located at the university. The Xi Chapter remains active as of 2008.

The Golden Chain Honor Society was begun after a student wrote an article in the Technician, proposing the idea of forming an honor society exclusive to NC State which would recognize several seniors who had excelled academically as students during their time at the university, but who had also demonstrated leadership and service to the university and in the community. The Golden Chain Honor Society was formed in 1926, and 12 senior students were selected to be the first members of the "golden chain" of exceptional NC State students. Thereafter, up to 12 rising seniors were selected in the spring of their junior year to form the next "links" in the "golden chain," and were recognized at a "tapping" ceremony at the end of their junior year. The Golden Chain Honor Society remained active as of 2008, at that time having just shy of 900 members ("links") in the Chain.

The records from the National Office of Phi Kappa Phi are comprised mostly of publications, and also include official handbooks, constitution and bylaws, brochures, and other literature produced by the national office for distribution to all chapters; as well as some materials on conference gatherings, the history of Phi Kappa Phi, and NC State emeritus professor Wendell H. McKenzie's tenure as national president. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine to act as an honorary society recognizing academic excellence across all disciplines. A chapter of Phi Kappa Phi was established at North Carolina State College (University) in 1923, largely under the direction of W. A. Withers, head of the Department of Chemistry. NC State's chapter was the 33rd to be established.
