Proposal, 5 April 1968, by Dr. W. J. Block and Dr. A. Holtzman for a one-page ad in the Raleigh News and Observer expressing sorrow at the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. and hope that his ideals would be accepted; a copy of the ad; lists of contributors; a letter about disposition of funds remaining after publication of memorial statement in News and Observer and the Carolinian; letters sending surplus funds to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; a letter of acknowledgement from Ralph David Abernathy, president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference; and a few related items. Also included in the collection are a brief note and newsclipping from Jim Hunt to Block, 1963. William J. Block was a member of the faculty of North Carolina State University in Political Science and Public Administration. He was chair of the university's Faculty Senate in 1964-1965. Abraham Holtzman was also a faculty member in Political Science and was chair of the Faculty Senate in 1962. Less
