The collection includes promotional materials, program descriptions, correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, and film rental receipts as well as materials, such as a script and slides, that relate to a student-produced performance based on readings from diaries, letters, and contemporary newspaper accounts dealing with North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War. H. Thomas Kearney was an instructor in the History Department of North Carolina State University from 1970 to 1978.Kearney was involved with Transition, a program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s and beyond. Billed as “an alternative freshman year,” the Transition program brought together about fifty freshmen for a small-scale group learning experience. In a residence hall setting, the students took courses in English, History, and Social Studies.
