Contained in this collection are agricultural publications (ca. 1920 - ca. 1960); pamphlets, brochures, and flyers for agricultural equipment and other agricultural information (ca. 1920 - ca. 1960); and correspondence, other papers, and memorabilia of David C. and Edgar W. Worth (1916 - 1990). This collection formerly contained publications, brochures, etc. produced by NC State College/University (1920s – 1980s) but these have been moved to the University Archives. Brothers David Crenshaw and Edgar Wilson Worth graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later NC State University), the former with a B.S. in Agriculture (1927) and M.S. in Animal Husbandry (1930) and the latter with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. David was the owner/operator of Oakhurt Dairy Farm in Wake County, NC, from 1927-1956. He was a prominent member of various dairy organzations in North Carolina. Less

The Ed Caram Negatives contain photographic negatives taken by Caram during his time as a student at NC State, from approximately 1969 to 1975. Topics photographed include athletics (particularly basketball and football), campus buildings, political rallies, student protests, outdoor events, concerts, daily student life, speakers, and the State Fair, among others. Negatives in Cardbox 13 and Microfilm Boxes 16 and 17 may have been taken by Nick England, another student photographer for the Technician. Ed Caram was a photographer for Student Media, with many photos appearing in the Technician student newspaper and perhaps the Agromeck yearbook as well. The H. Thomas Kearney Papers contain materials related to the Transition program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s. The collection includes promotional materials, program descriptions, correspondence, newspaper clippings, reports, and film rental receipts as well as materials, such as a script and slides, that relate to a student-produced performance based on readings from diaries, letters, and contemporary newspaper accounts dealing with North Carolina's involvement in the Civil War. H. Thomas Kearney was an instructor in the History Department of North Carolina State University from 1970 to 1978.Kearney was involved with Transition, a program conducted by North Carolina State University during the 1970s and beyond. Billed as “an alternative freshman year,” the Transition program brought together about fifty freshmen for a small-scale group learning experience. The Jesse P. Spoon Letters are ten letters documenting Spoon's life as a student at North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now North Carolina State University). The letters are addressed to Robert A. Coble of Oakdale, North Carolina, who was Spoon's classmate at what Spoon calls "Oakdale School." This may refer to Oakdale Academy, which was a preparatory school in Alamance County. Spoon discusses military training, classes, and social receptions at the college, as well as other notable events like measles outbreaks. There is also some discussion of events in Oakdale, a community in the Patterson Township of Alamance County, North Carolina. The first seven letters were written from January to April 1903, with the following three being from March and May of 1904. Jesse Page Spoon was born on 20 January 1883 in Alamance County, North Carolina. He may have attended preparatory school at Oakdale Academy. In 1902 or 1903, he began attending North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now North Carolina State University), where he earned a Bachelors of Agriculture in May 1908 and a Master of Science in 1909. In 1909 he worked at the college as a laboratory assistant in anatomy and physiology. He next attended the Kansas City Veterinary College in Kansas City, Missouri, earning a Doctor of Veterinary Surgery degree in 1911. He practiced veterinary medicine in Burlington, North Carolina, where he worked with Dr. W.A. Hornaday and served on the Burlington School Board and as Secretary of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association. He married Mable Clare Lea on 30 December 1915. They had two children, Margaret Jane Spoon and Mildred Lea Spoon. Jesse Page Spoon died on 29 October 1931 in Burlington, North Carolina. Less

The Jim Davis Photographs contain photographs, slides, and negatives of the NC State University campus, student life and activities, athletics, and Chancellor John Caldwell, among other topics. Selected images were used in the Agromeck yearbooks of 1972, 1973, and 1974. Most items were photographed by Jim Davis (editor of the 1975 Agromeck), but some were taken by Michael O'Brien and Jim Holcombe, also on the Agromeck staff. Less

This collection contains coursework of John H. (Hinton) Parker while he was a student at North Carolina State College (later university) in the early 1940s. Includes are exercise and workbooks, mostly for agricultural economics courses. Of note is an eleven page report Parker wrote after a farm management tour in northeastern North Carolina in May 1941, in which he briefly described farms visited in Nash, Edgecomb, Greene, Beaufort, Washington, Tyrrell, and Martin counties. The tour included Farm Security Administration settlements. John Hinton Parker was a student at North Carolina State College (later NC State University) in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He received a B.S. in Agricultural Education in 1942. He was later owner of the Parker Seed Company of Dunn, North Carolina. Less

The Mary R. Boone Papers contain newspaper clippings, photographs, photocopies of newspaper clippings, articles, and cartoons relating to the proposed ratification of the Equal Rights amendment and Mary R. Barnes Boone's participation in a hunger strike in support of ratification. While the material is primarily focused on the hunger strike, documents relating to Boone's experiences as a feminist and supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment are also contained in the collection, including her correspondence with the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints regarding her views. An audioreel of Sonia Johnson's speech at North Carolina State University, and January 1983 edition of Life Magazine: The Year in Pictures are included in this collection, along with various ephemera related to the aforementioned topics. Mary R. Boone was a student at North Carolina State University in 1982, and she belonged to a group that brought Sonia Johnson to campus to speak. Johnson had just authored the book titled From Housewife to Heretic, an account of Johnson's personal journey as a previous member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a supporter of the Equal Rights Ammendment. Johnson's speech inspired Boone (then known as Mary Barnes) to join with six other women in a hunger strike to support the Equal Rights Amendment, then being considered by the states for ratification. Though the Equal Rights Ammendment failed to pass, the hunger strike generated much publicity and interest, even inciting sympathy fasts among supporters of the protest group. Less

Contained in this collection are black-and-white photographs taken by Biddy while a student at North Carolina State University. Some may have been shot for the Technician (the student newspaper). Included are 8 x 10 inch prints, contact prints, and negatives for some prints. These images date from approximately 1960, and they depict campus buildings as well as unidentified people who are probably students. The Stephen G. Rea Papers (1976-1987) are comprised of 0.2 linear feet of photocopies of correspondence, certificates, newsclippings, programs, photographs, and other documents. These materials document Rea's involvement in ASME, Engineers Council, Golden Chain, and other NC State University student organizations. Also included are materials from internships, soccer, the Army National Guard, and the City of Raleigh. A native of Goldsboro, NC, Stephen G. Rea ("Steve") was a student at North Carolina State University during the 1970s and 1980s. He majored in mechanical engineering, and he received his BS in 1980 and MS in 1987. After leaving NC State Rea worked for Carolina Power & Light. He then worked more than 25 years for Heyward Incorporated, eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Power Capital Sales. For his service to the North Carolina power industry, the governor bestowed on Rea the Order of the Longleaf Pine. Less

The William Staley Bridges Papers contain reports of various individual student experiments made in the Mechanical Engineering Department at North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) between 1947 and 1958.
