MoreThis collection contains digital audio and video recordings of interviews conducted with former NC State students from the Class of 1962. Interviews were conducted by Jonathan Holloway and Samantha Rich, both from the staff of the NC State University Libraries. This is an artificial collection maintained by the NC State University Libraries' Special Collections Research Center. These oral histories were conducted on 30 March 2012 with some of the members of the NC State Class of 1962 who attended the Reunion Weekend. Interviews were conducted by NC State University Libraries staff. Clyda Weeks Lutz was first interviewed as a member of the Class of 1962 and then later re-interviewed for the Student Leadership Initiative, a project that chronicles the experiences and impact of former NC State student leaders.

These records have not yet been processed. Formerly known as the Faculty Council and the Advisory Committee of the General Faculty, the Faculty Senate provides advice to the Chancellor and, through the Chancellor, to the Board of Trustees. In this role, the Faculty Senate discusses with or provides information to any administrator with authority and responsibility for a decision, recommends policies to any administrator who is authorized to make a decision, and makes policy recommendations to the Chancellor, Provost and Vice Chancellors.

The records include bulletins, brochures, graduate programs, course catalogs, and a CD. Also included are electronic issues of the Graduate School Catalog, 2003-2018. Graduate instruction began at North Carolina State University in 1893, with the first Master's degree conferred in 1894 doctoral degree in 1926. A Graduate School existed from 1923 to 1931, but it was eliminated with the consolidation of the public universities in North Carolina. It was re-established at NC State during the 1950s.

The first library at North Carolina State University was established in 1889 in a room in Holladay Hall. In 1925 a new purpose-built library building was constructed (now Brooks Hall). In 1954 the current D.H. Hill Library building was opened (originally just the east wing of the current structure). The library space was expanded in 1971 by building an 11-story book tower and connecting the original space with the former student union (now the Erdahl-Cloyd or west wing). Further expansion and renovation occurred in the 1980s, culminating in 1990 with the opening of the second (or "south") bookstack tower. In 2013 the award-winning James B. Hunt Library opened on the university’s Centennial Campus. In 2016, NC State University Libraries won the National Medal for Museum and Library Service, bestowed by the Institute for Museum and Library Service. The medal was presented by First Lady Michelle Obama to Director Susan Nutter during a ceremony. Susan Nutter retired from the Libraries in 2017, after an esteemed 30 year tenure.

They also include slide sets, a portrait of Wallace W. Riddick, Jr., the Dedication Plaque for the Burlington Textiles Library, the Quick Response Collection, Textile World Charts, and panels from past exhibits. Materials range in date from 1911 to 2010. From 1988 to 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library was located in room 4411 of the College of Textiles complex on the Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University. The Library provided services to the faculty and staff, students, and NC State Centennial Campus community and university affiliates. The Library supported the curriculum and research programs in textile chemistry, textile materials and management, and fiber and polymer science. In 2013, the Burlington Textiles Library was subsumed by the new James B. Hunt, Jr. Library, also on Centennial Campus.

The records include a video of a talk given by Saul Flores on occasion of an exhibition chronicling his journey through Latin America. The exhibit, entitled The Walk of the Immigrants, ran from January - April 2012 in the Exhibit Gallery of D.H. Hill Library. The Records also include materials related to the North Carolina Literary Festival, hosted by NC State in April of 2014. Materials date from 2010 to 2015. The Director of Program Planning and Outreach provides programming that builds connections and networks between the NC State University Libraries and the university community. The programming includes the Fabulous Faculty Series, the Student All-Star Series, the Amazing Alumni Series, and the North Carolina Literary Festival, among other endeavors.

MoreThe North Carolina State University Special Collections Research Center Records contain correspondence, brochures, exhibit files, CD-ROMs containing digital projects, and other materials relating to the activities and administration of the department. Materials range in date from 1957 to 2010. North Carolina State University Libraries established the Department of Special Collections in 1993; at the same time, the University Archives - established in the 1960s but with origins dating back to 1939 - was transferred from the Provost's Office to the administrative jurisdiction of the Libraries and - together with Rare Books and Manuscripts - formed the new program. The SCRC supports the research and teaching needs of the university community and other scholars by collecting, housing, and providing access to special collections that are unique and often irreplaceable.

Kenan, Jr. and his home, informational brochures, articles, born digital materials, photographs of the library dedication, and documents regarding gifts to the library. The Veterinary Medicine Library opened in 1981 with the first graduating class from the School (now College) of Veterinary Medicine. It supports the research and curriculum at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the study of life sciences, veterinary medicine, and animal and human health at NC State University. In 2006 it was renamed the William Rand Kenan, Jr. Library of Veterinary Medicine. Kenan (1872-1965) was a North Carolina native who contributed to progress in a variety of fields, including education, engineering, agriculture, finance, business and science.

MoreThis subgroup includes correspondence, reports, personnel files, and news clippings from the North Carolina State University Director of Athletics. Subjects include individual sports such as football, basketball, track and field, and wrestling, as well as the building and renovation of Carter-Finley Stadium. Award certificates and lists of award winners are also included. Some files in this subgroup have restricted access. Athletics began officially at the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts on March 12, 1892 when a football team made up of students at the college defeated the Raleigh Male Academy, a local high school, by the score 12-6. That fall, the team scrimmaged for the first time against the second teams of area colleges. After losing to the University of North Carolina and Wake Forest, the football team decided that they lacked the funds necessary to compete on an equal level with other colleges and universities. Therefore, they petitioned the college Board of Trustees for fifty dollars to finance travel and team equipment. With this request, the faculty and trustees of the college first became involved with intercollegiate athletics. Since 1947 athletic teams at North Carolina State have been known as the Wolfpack. The University has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since it was formed in 1953.

MoreThe North Carolina State University, Athletics, Football Audiovisual Materials collection contains primarily moving image recordings of North Carolina State University varsity football games. These recordings were captured by the Department of Athletics for coaching and review purposes, and are mostly without sound, commentary, or other narration. Also included in this collection are a small number of narrated moving image recordings on the topics of NC State football and collegiate football in general, intended for airing over television stations; as well as miscellaneous footage of individual players and coaches at NC State. Materials range in date from 1937 to 2011, and some recordings are undated. In 1892, the first official football game at NC State was played against a local prep school, Raleigh Male Academy; in 1893, State played their first intercollegiate game against Tennessee. The 1895 team was the first to wear the now traditional red and white colored uniforms, a change from their original pink and blue uniforms. The first on-campus football game was played in 1907 on the field that would later become Riddick Stadium. In 1918, John Ripple becomes the first athlete at NC State to be named an All-American in any sport, and in 1978, Ted Brown becomes the first African American to be named an All-American in football. The football team adopted the nickname “Wolfpack” in 1921, although all other sports continued to use the name “Red Terrors.” In 1930, the first night game was played at Riddick Stadium, and ended in a 37-0 victory against High Point. The team was invited to their first post-season bowl game in 1947, the January 1 Gator bowl against the University of Oklahoma. On October 21 1950, the football team played their first televised game against Maryland. The new Carter Stadium (renamed Carter-Finley Stadium in 1979) opened on October 8, 1966, and in 1967, Marcus Martin became the first African American member of the football team. In 1967, the team won their first bowl game (the Liberty Bowl) against Georgia with a score of 14-7. The team won their first ACC championship in 1957.
