The Juanita Lagg Cooperative Extension Papers consists of records pertaining to North Carolina Extension Homemakers work from 1915 to 2014. The records include photographs, letters, notes, correspondences, newspaper articles, a scrapbook, and other records relating to Juanita Lagg's work with Home Demonstration and Extension organizations. Juanita Lagg actively volunteered with the Rowan County Extension and Community Association for over fifty years. She joined the Rowan County Home Demonstration in 1956 and served in leadership positions at the club, county, district, state, and national level. Lagg researched and directed the North Carolina Extension Homemakers water project in Guatamala that brought clean water to three villages. In 1981, she was appointed by the governor to the Rowan County Board of Social Services and served two three-year terms. Less

Professional papers of Julian Reitman documenting his work in the field of simulation. This collection consists mainly of budget reports and conference proceedings digests from Winter Simulation Conferences, 1968-1998. Additionally there are technical reprints and operational manuals used by Reitman when he was employed by the Norden Division of United Aircraft Corporation. Julian Reitman was the leader of one of the first simulation application groups in industry at the Norden Division of United Aircraft Corporation. They created numerous simulation models of real systems including naval vessel performance, anti-submarine warfare, effectiveness of airborne radar, railed automated highways, air traffic control, message switching in communications, and yield prediction for integrated circuit production. Reitman also was one of the founders of the Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) in 1968. Reitman wrote one of the first simulation textbooks, Computer Simulation Applications: Discrete Event Simulation for Synthesis and Analysis of Complex Systems (1971). Less

The Kanton T. Reynolds Papers contain name tags and business cards from student government, a Technician newspaper, photographs from Reynolds' time as student government Chief Justice, and student government projects and papers. Subjects include preventing destructive student celebrations, NC State University basketball, and student government goals. Also included in this collection are a few items from Tasha Youngblood, Student Body Treasurer. Materials range from 1992 to 1995 with several undated items. Kanton T. Reynolds graduated from North Carolina State University in 1995 with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. As a student, he ran unopposed and won the position of Chief Justice for student government in the 1994 election. He was a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Reynolds went on to earn a Masters of Industrial Engineering and Business Administration in 1997 and 2005. He then received his Ph.D. from North Carolina A&T University in 2014. After spending twenty years in the corporate realm, Dr. Reynolds came back to NC State University as the Director of Undergraduate Programs for the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering in 2017. Less

The Kenneth O. Beatty Papers contain both the professional and personal papers of the North Carolina State University chemical engineering professor. Included are professional and personal correspondence; research proposals; notes, reports, drafts of articles, speeches, and conference papers; university committee files; photographs and newspaper clippings; a scrapbook and several historical accounts of the North Carolina State University Department of Chemical Engineering; poetry; and other documents. Kenneth Orion Beatty was a professor of chemical engineering, 1946-1978, at North Carolina State University. His research interests included heat and mass transfer field, and in the 1960s and 1970s, he was a major participant in the International Heat Transfer Conferences. He also worked on languages for the blind and braille accessibility and functionality. After retirement, he was known as an expert witness in slip-and-fall and arson cases. Less

The Kenneth Walter Cameron Papers relates to Cameron's career as a professor of English at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University), as well as his work as a scholar of the American transcendental movement. This collection contains the text of his radio address on Memorable Teachers, personal and professional correspondence with students and colleagues, a letter transmitting Dr. Cameron's publication West Virginia University Sixty Years Ago - Memories of Louis Watson Chappell, and a letter notifying Cameron that he had received the Award for Distinguished Achievement in Emerson Studies. Also included are excerpts from Dr. Cameron's publication Emerson the Essayist, and a copy of Pen and Ink (Volume I, 1942), a literary publication written by students in Cameron's freshman composition class. Examples of student term papers, course handouts and grade books (1938 - 1943) round out the collection. An educator, author, and scholar of the American transcendental movement, Kenneth Walter Cameron (1908-2006) was born on October 12, 1908, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, eldest son of Albert Ernest (1885-1938) and Zoe (1890-1957) Cameron. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from West Virginia University in 1930 and 1931, an S.T.B. from General Theological Seminary, New York, in 1935, and his Ph.D. from Yale in 1940. He was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1935. Cameron came to North Carolina as an instructor in English at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) and taught from 1938 to 1943. After working briefly in a teaching position at Temple University, he settled permanently at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1946. At North Carolina State, Cameron taught a course in composition and a course entitled The Bible as Literature. He was involved in teaching an English course in the Army Specialized Training Program (U.S.) (ASTP) during World War II. Cameron authored and edited numerous articles and books on Emerson, Thoreau, and their contemporaries. He served as editor for both American Transcendental Quarterly and Emerson Society Quarterly. The Kent Lioret Collection of Political Buttons and Pamphlet, circa 1950-1999, contains a pamphlet by the British politician and communist party member Harry Pollitt, a news clipping, and a variety of buttons on political campaigns, the Vietnam War, and other topics. Materials date from the 1950s to the 1990s, although buttons are mainly from the 1960s to the early 1980s. E. The Kofi Boone Papers contains architectural drawings, studies, correspondence, files, and media clippings for projects that span Boone's student and professional careers. Boone's documented projects include: master plans completed during graduate school at the University of Michigan; urban design guidelines, planning analyses and public park designs completed at the multidisciplinary firm JJR Inc.; and participatory designs and place-based storytelling efforts completed out of the NC State Department of Landscape Architecture. Most graduate school and JJR projects are located in the Detroit area, and most NC State projects are located in North Carolina. The collection also includes web content: The Cultural Landscape Foundation blog, The Landscape Architecture Podcast, and a website featuring Kofi Boone's "Black Landscapes Matter" article. Kofi Boone is an African American landscape architect and a professor in the NC State University Department of Landscape Architecture within the College of Design. Boone joined the Department of Landscape Architecture faculty in 2004. Through scholarship, teaching and extension service, Boone works in the landscape context of environmental justice and explores the use of new media as a means of increasing community input in design and planning processes. The Kurt Eichenberger Papers contains architectural drawings and research materials (1918-1996) on the Mattamuskeet Lodge at Lake Mattamuskeet, North Carolina. Eichenberger collected and created these documents in the 1990s when he was commissioned by the Fish and Wildlife Service and the Partnership for the Sounds to work on the lodge. Kurt Eichenberger is an architect in Raleigh, North Carolina. His firm, Kurt Eichenberger/architect AIA, has practiced in Raleigh since 1986. Much of its work has been for public agencies and it has specialized in renovation, restoration, and adaptive re-use of downtown historic buildings. Less

These include original class notes, 1921-1925, for North Carolina State College courses in botany, agriculture, anatomy, and physics. Also included are materials collected by James R. Troyer when he wrote a biographical article about Whitford. L. A. (Larry Alston) Whitford (1902-1995) was associated with North Carolina State University through most of his higher education and career. Whitford earned an undergraduate degree in biology from North Carolina State College in 1925 and an M.S. in 1929. He went on to serve as a botany professor from 1926 to 1968, specializing in the study of phycology. Less

The Larry K. Monteith Papers contain correspondence, reports, proposals, published articles, newspaper clippings, speeches, and artifacts. The collection spans Monteith's career at North Carolina State University, including material from 1933 to 1998. It covers his tenure as undergraduate, faculty member, dean, interim Chancellor, and Chancellor at the University. The primary focuses of the collection are the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina (MCNC), his research publications as an electrical engineer, and his speeches as Chancellor. Larry King Monteith enrolled at North Carolina State University in 1956, receiving a BS (1960) in electrical engineering. He then received an MS (1962) degree and a PhD (1965) from Duke University in electrical engineering. After holding positions at Bell Telephone Laboratories, analyzing the NIKE missile system, and participating in a semiconductor research group, Monteith joined the faculty of North Carolina State University's Electrical Engineering Department. He became department head in 1974. He was named dean of the School of Engineering in 1978 and was named chancellor of North Carolina State University in May 1990 after serving as interim chancellor for a year. Degernes Papers, 1970-2016, contain a wide variety of materials, including correspondence, photographs, conference materials, patient charts, radiographs, manuscripts, course materials, conference handbooks, presentation notes, newspaper clippings, magazines, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes. The collection provides information about Degernes’ work as a staff veterinarian at the Raptor Center at University of Minnesota, St. Paul, her involvement in the Trumpeter Swan reintroduction program, and her work as a professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. The collection also includes materials relating to Degernes' participation in various professional organizations and conferences, her contributions to avian medicine and surgery scholarship, and her work as a consultant in parrot, raptor, and waterfowl medicine. Dr. Laurel “Laurie” Ann Degernes was a professor of avian medicine at North Carolina State University from 1992 to 2016. She holds a B.A. in Biology (1976), a B.S. in Veterinary Sciences (1979), and D.V.M. (1981) from the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. In 1992, Degernes interned at The Raptor Center at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, and eventually served as a staff veterinarian there from 1986 to 1990. During this time, Degernes gained national attention for her work treating and rehabilitating lead-poisoned trumpeter swans through the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources’ Trumpeter Swan reintroduction program. Degernes later moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, to complete her residency training in exotic and wild bird medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University. After her residency, she became a faculty member at NC State. During a sabbatical leave in 2005, Degernes earned a M.P.H. in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Upon her retirement in 2016, Degernes established the Dr. Laurie Degernes Fellowship for Avian Medicine Education. Less
