The Dean Wallace Colvard papers consists of 33 pages of abstracts from Colvard's diary relating to the selection of North Carolina State College (now North Carolina State University) Chancellor Carey Hoyt Bostian in 1952 and Chancellor John Tyler Caldwell in 1959. Also included are 28 pages of records and Colvard's comments concerning the history of the test farm in Swannanoa, N.C., and the Mountain Branch Agricultural Research Station in Waynesville, N.C. Ashe County, N.C., native Dean Wallace Colvard (1913 - ) received a bachelor's degree from Berea College (Ky.) in 1935, a master's degree from the University of Missouri in 1938, and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1950. He was an instructor and farm manager at Brevard College (N.C.) from 1935 to 1937 and the general manager and coordinator of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Mountain Experiment Stations from 1938 to 1946. He joined the North Carolina State College faculty as the head of the dairy husbandry section in 1947, and became the dean of agriculture in 1948. He remined in this position until 1960, when he left N.C. State to become the president of the University of Mississippi. He became the first chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1967. After his retirement in 1978, Colvard helped develop the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. The records of the Office of the Dean in the College of Design of North Carolina State University include correspondence, minutes, reports relating to the administration of the College and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), courses and curricula materials, accreditation, the North Carolina Design Foundation Inc., lectures, programs, landscape architecture accreditation, the American Society of Landscape Architects accreditation, and the National Architecture Accrediting Board. The records also contain committee minutes, including the Executive Committee and the Course and Curricula Committee, which includes material on undergraduate and graduate courses. Materials collected and used by Bob Burns while writing a history of the College of Design are also present. Some born-digital materials are incorporated throughout the collection, including in the Digital and Audiovisual Materials and Web Content series. Materials range in date from 1945 to 2012.
