Rynn Berry, Jr., was an author, lecturer, and activist who dedicated his life to increasing public awareness on vegetarianism, veganism, animal rights, and the religious and ethical aspects of these topics. He was regarded as an expert on the history of vegetarianism, and he wrote many books, articles, book entries, in addition to giving lectures and participating in discussion panels.

- A series of one-act plays about the lives of vegetarian historical figures.
Rynn Berry, Jr. was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University and was a practicing raw foodist. He was a contributing member of the North American Vegetarian Society (NAVS), EarthSave, the American Vegetarian Association (AVA), and the American Vegan Society Speakers Bureau. He was a resident of New York City and passed away in 2014.
Scope/content
The Rynn Berry Jr. Papers contains a variety of materials dated from 1896 to 2016. They feature resources Rynn Berry Jr. used in research for his writings and presentations, as well as his own personal interests. These topics include vegetarianism, veganism, raw foodism, and animal rights, and their related activism, practice, and history. Berry was interested in the history of vegetarianism and researched extensively its presence in the ancient world. Furthermore, he researched various global movements throughout history, the lives of notable vegetarians and vegans, and religious and ethical approaches to the practice.
The types of materials include record files, books, periodicals, articles taken from periodicals, booklets, pamphlets, leaflets, manuscript drafts, research notes, facsimiles, drawings, photographs, correspondence, audio recordings, video recordings, and computer disks. Included in the collection are also resources Berry used in the process of submitting his works to publishers and having them published.
Arrangement
This collection is divided into three series: Research Materials, Books and Periodicals, and Personal Records. All are divided into subseries. The files within each series and subseries are arranged alphabetically, then chronologically.
