Four handcolored lithographs from British Butterflies and Their Transformations by Henry Noel Humphreys (1810-1879) and J. O. (John Obadiah) Westwood (1805-1893), published in London by W. S. Orr & Co., in 1856. Each plate depicts several species of butterfly with flowers and food-plants together with larvae and pupae. Also included is a color copy of each lithograph.

The first edition of British Butterflies and Their Transformations was published in London by William Smith in 1841. Several other editions were published in the following 20 years, including one published in 1856 by W. S. Orr. The book was arranged and illustrated in a series of plates by H. N. Humphreys, with characters and descriptions by J. O. Westwood. Henry Noel Humphreys (1810–1879) was a British illustrator, naturalist, entomologist, and numismatist. In addition to his entomological texts, Humphreys wrote works on ancient Greek and Roman coins, archaeology, and the art of writing and printing. John Obadiah Westwood (22 December 1805–2 January 1893) was an English entomologist and archaeologist also noted for his artistic talents. He became a curator and later professor at Oxford University, Westwood was a Fellow of the Linnean Society and president of the Entomological Society of London (1852–1853).
