The Calada News Gathering Services Collection of Video Recordings and Other Material Relating to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, includes National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) publications, photographs, and video recordings related to a variety of projects and missions. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and Space Shuttle missions are all represented. Related materials from NASA contractors are also included in the collection. Photographs depict space craft and crew members, as well as images from space. The majority of the videos contain press conferences, mission highlights, or television programs. Many of the titles in the collection are represented in more than one format.

Calada News Gathering Services was located in Houston, Texas, and moved to New Bern, North Carolina, in 1996. The owner and executive producer, Don Avrut, collected the majority of the materials in this collection between 1995 and 2002.

Calada News Gathering Services moved to 407 Hancock Street in New Bern, North Carolina, in 1996 from the previous location at 2501 McDuffie Road in Houston, Texas. The owner and executive producer, Don Avrut, collected the majority of the materials in this collection between 1995 and 2002.

Scope/content

This collection includes National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) publications, photographs, and films and videos related to a variety of NASA projects and missions. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz Test Program, and Space Shuttle Program missions are all represented. Related materials from NASA's corporate contractors is also included in the collection. Photographs depict space craft and astronauts, as well as images from space. The majority of the films and videos contain press conferences, mission highlights, or television programs. Many of the titles in the collection are represented in more than one format.

Custodial history

This collection was a gift to the College of Management from Sallye Webster.

Arrangement

The collection is organized into three series: NASA publications and photographs, corporate publications, and video.

The majority of the press kits and related materials are arranged by mission number, with other files in alphabetical order for materials associated with particular projects. Fact sheets, newsletters, and similar materials are grouped together by type and arranged chronologically.

Photographs are arranged into two groups, by mission number and by date.

Corporate materials are arranged alphabetically by corporation.

NASA videos are arranged by format and production number. Titles without production numbers are arranged alphabetically by title at the end of the format.

Use of these materials

The nature of the NC State University Libraries' Special Collections means that copyright or other information about restrictions may be difficult or even impossible to determine despite reasonable efforts. The NC State University Libraries claims only physical ownership of most Special Collections materials.

The materials from our collections are made available for use in research, teaching, and private study, pursuant to U.S. Copyright law.
