Where can I use ATLAS.ti?

As of Spring 2024, NCSU users may choose between two ATLAS.ti licenses:

  1. The latest license is offered by OIT.  Full information is at https://software.ncsu.edu/software/atlas-ti/
    • Pros:
      • Latest version that is fully compatible with current Mac and Windows Operating Systems.
      • Includes recent AI capabilities.
      • Includes access to using the web / cloud version.
      • Currently no cost for NCSU users.
    • Con:
      • There's a possibility the campus license will not be renewed in August 2024, so users will need to purchase a renewal license on their own at that time.
  2. A perpetual license (doesn't expire) for version 9.1 that is held by CHASS, and available per the instructions below.
    • Pros:
      • Will not expire, but CHASS will eventually no longer support it and/or it will no longer be functional.
      • Will remain no cost for NCSU users as long as CHASS supports it.
    • Cons:
      • Does not function on the latest Mac OS version 14 (Sonoma).  ATLAS.ti crashes when launched.
      • Does not include the latest updates and AI functions.
      • Does not include web / cloud access.

Instructions for obtaining a version 9.1 account and software download

ATLAS.ti version 9.1 users must authenticate with a personal ATLAS.ti account in order to use the desktop software or cloud app. The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has purchased licensing and is graciously making it available for all NC State University affiliates at the present time (see exception below for the Friday Institute).

General access information

  • Ignore any messages you see about needing to purchase a license or start a trial. Our license is fully enabled and is no additional cost to users.
  • If you are affiliated with the NCSU Friday Institute, please contact your IT staff to use the FI license.
  • Class instructors are requested to please fill out the form below on behalf of your class, rather than have your students all submit individual requests. If you are teaching with ATLAS.ti in a campus computer lab, remember to contact your IT department (chass_it@ncsu.edu for CHASS labs) well in advance to ensure it is installed in the lab.
  • The VCL does not have ATLAS.ti in the CHASS WVD environment.
