GC 420 Showcase: The Power of Visual Thinking

Students in GC 420 Visual Thinking used their graphic communication skills and a variety of media to explain core visual thinking concepts.

  • A hand-painted canvas poster/infographic with illustrations of the concept of pattern on a black background at top, and a large collage of road signs at bottom.

  • The six images are painted in a dreamlike, impressionistic style, showing an alligator and/or multiple figures in a scene with desert qualities and a bodies of water, and in some images a boat, the sun, and various structures.

  • A poster with hand lettered titles and descriptions in various lettering, with simple hand-drawn graphics, displaying the different types of autonomous imagery, steps for utilizing the different imageries, and benefits for doing so.

About This Exhibit

These projects, made by students in the course GC 420 Visual Thinking led by instructor Mariam Elias, bring together form and substance in unique and powerful ways. Each student has chosen a concept in visual perception or processing (e.g., color, dimensionality), and used creative visual means to elucidate the concept in a variety of media, including posters, sculpture, and even a playable video game.
