Join PhD student Travis R. Merchant-Knudsen as they walk through their research project “Machinic Visions of a Glitched Binary: AI Image-Generation and its View of Gender.” By using image generations and image analysis programs, Merchant-Knudsen creates visualizations of transgender and non-binary bodies that deconstruct and “glitch” the gender binary.
Merchant-Knudsen is currently a Ph.D. student in the Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM) program at North Carolina State University. They are an English, Media Studies, and Communication instructor and former Image Editor for Film International. Their work has been published in Film International; Language, Literature, and Interdisciplinary Studies; and Southeast Asian Review of English
