Placing Items on Reserve: Request purchase of Reserve Materials

Placing items on Reserve Using DVM Online Syllabus

For DVM core courses, the library automatically enters the titles indicated as regular, optional and library reserves from the DVM Online Course Syllabus as the reserve request list in the reserve management system.

Staff use the syllabus published and updated for the semester deadlines as of August 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the spring semester. Additional books or media (library owned or personal copies) may be added after the semester deadlines by emailing a list to libraryvetmed@ncsu.edu as an attachment. Please help us expedite your request by:

  • Specifying email subject as Reserve Request
  • Including faculty name, course name/ number and complete citation (title, author and edition) on the attached reading list.
NB: It takes 1-2 days to process and make materials available for students. Materials are not processed on weekends, in the evenings, or during holidays.

Placing items on Reserve for Other Courses

Choose one of the following methods: Reserves Self-Service, Email Request, or Online Request Form.

  1. Reserves Self Service
    Manage course reserves directly in the web-based online course reserve management system.
    • reactivate past course reading list
    • upload new or additional material
    • custom sort and annotate reserve items
  2. Email Request to libraryvetmed@ncsu.edu with reading list or syllabus as an attachment.
    Please help us expedite your request by:
    • Specifying email subject as Reserve Request
    • Including faculty name, course name/ number and complete citation (title, author and edition) on the attached reading list.
  3. Online Request Form
    Select Veterinary Medicine Library as the preferred location and library staff will pull and process item indicated for your course.

Placing Personal Items on Reserve

Personal materials may include books, media or copies. Please ensure personal materials are labelled with the course name/number, title (outside and on media piece), and owner name prior to delivering them to the library. Place media in cases. Place print copies in folders.

Any personal materials listed on the DVM Online Syllabus as of the semester deadlines of August 1 or December 1 should be presented to library staff by those dates.

We appreciate prompt delivery of materials to the library. Email the request list for those materials to libraryvetmed@ncsu.edu as an attachment prior to delivery. Or, you can complete the Print Request Form (PDF) and bring the form along with the materials.

Placing Selectives on Reserve

The library does not automatically place selective reading on reserve. Requests are due two weeks prior to the date the selective begins. Requests should list all items whether currently on reserve for other courses or unique to the selective so that students may consult one listing for the selective.

Email your request to libraryvetmed@ncsu.edu with reading list or syllabus as an attachment. Please help us expedite your request by:

  • Specifying email subject as Reserve Request
  • Including faculty name, course name/ number and complete citation (title, author and edition) on the attached reading list.

Request Purchase of Reserve Materials

Use the online request form. Select Veterinary Medicine Library as your preferred location and indicate titles you wish to have purchased for Reserves.
