SPECIAL COLLECTIONS RESEARCH CENTER
Transfers and Gifts
Many of the Special Collections Research Center's Manuscripts and Rare Books holdings come from donations by friends of the Libraries and the university. The staff of the Special Collections Research Center welcomes the opportunity to review collections that may have significant historic or scholarly value to the library and to the university.
Donations of such collections may be accepted in whole or in part, depending on certain criteria, including condition of the material, format, and overall scholarly research value. The storage environment for these archives, manuscripts, and drawings is carefully monitored to provide a controlled climate and proper security for long-term preservation. Donations added to rare book and manuscript collections are available to the public for research in the NCSU Libraries' Special Collections Reading Room located in the D. H. Hill Library.
In addition, various efforts are underway by interested members of the NCSU community to enable the Special Collections Research Center build and maintain its collections.
One such effort includes that of the generous efforts North Carolina Entomological Society, which is currently soliciting donations to assist the NCSU Libraries in adding to the rare books holdings relating to entomology by building an Entomological Special Collections Endowment.
Similarly, other supporters have established a variety of endowments, restricted endowments, and seed endowments. We welcome any additional donations to these funds. For a full list of them, please consult the Library Development Office's page on giving opportunities. page.
The holdings of the University Archives result from transfers of the records of organizations, units, and departments throughout NCSU to the Libraries. The staff of the University Archives welcomes the opportunity to review collections that may have significant historic or scholarly value to the library and to the university.
For more information on how to transfer materials to the University Archives, please consult the Guidelines for Transferring Materials to the University Archives page.
