There are many librarians who can help you with your courses. See the list of subject specialist librarians for the names of librarians working in your discipline.

Do you have readings you'd like to make available to all your students online?

___ E-Reserves -- may include PDFs of books and lecture notes, links directly into journals, audio files, images. Files and links are maintained by the library -- more information -- or contact the Reserves department.

___ Library Article Linker - a tool to create stable links directly to articles in online journals in the library's collection -- contact Kim Duckett.

___ the Scholarly Communication librarian is available to answer any questions you have about copyright and use of copyrighted materials in your course -- contact the Copyright and Digital Scholarship Center.

Would you like to include library resources in your Moodle course site?

___ Library Tools -- Library Tools web pages are sets of library recommendations built around courses and curricula. You can request to have the Library Tools page for your course customized to your assignments. You can include Library Tools as a link in Vista or as a Moodle block.

Do you have documentaries or films you'd like for your students to watch?

___ The library may be able to purchase rights to provide online, streaming access to a film -- contact Darby Orcutt, Assistant Head, Collection Management.

___ Instructors can check materials out of the Media Center to show in class or they may book the theater in the library -- Information about booking.

___ DELTA and the library have partnerships to facilitate the delivery of films to students in distance education courses -- contact Kim Duckett.

Are you teaching a distance education course?

___ TripSaver - the library will send students books for free via UPS two-day delivery. Any articles not available in the library's online subscriptions will be scanned and made available to students online. The library sends the students a link to a PDF.

___ Ask a Librarian services include phone (including toll-free), email, IM, and "virtual reference" chat.

___ DELTA and the library have partnerships to facilitate the delivery of films to students in distance education courses -- contact Kim Duckett.

___ Librarians are available to work online with groups of distance education students and/or create online guides to help students with assignments -- contact Kim Duckett.

Do your students have trouble finding the kinds of information you want them to use in their papers and projects?

___ A librarian can create a customized, set of resources for your course's Library Course Tools page.

___ A librarian can look at your assignment to give suggestions on language to use in order to contextualize library research, to provide specific instructions to guide students to appropriate resources, and to give you a sense of how well the parameters of the assignment match to the resources available in the NCSU Libraries.

___ A librarian can visit your class to teach students about the social contexts surrounding information such as: the scholarly communication process, the economics of information, Wikipedia and the evaluation of information, plagiarism/citation, copyright, etc.

___ A librarian can visit your class to teach students about how to find specific kinds of information (ex. scholarly journal articles, GIS, numeric data), how to use article databases, etc.

Do your students have trouble with citation style and/or writing?

___ Citation Builder - easy-to-use tool that helps students construct APA, MLA, and CBE style citations for books, scholarly journal articles, articles a reprinted collection, book chapter, personal essay, or interview.

___ Refworks - a comprehensive "citation management" tool that is free to NCSU students and accessed via the web. It is most appropriate for upper-level students, graduate-level students, and researchers. Librarians are available to teach Refworks workshops either face-to-face or online.

___ NCSU Writing and Speaking Tutorial Services - this center provides one-on-one assistance for writing and speaking projects as well as a variety of web-based guides.

Do your students need to do any of the following for a project?

Create a poster or banner?
Add photos, maps, slides, and other illustrations to a project?
Turn a paper into a digital format (i.e. PDF)?
Take photos or digital video and/or edit them?

providing an orientation to available resources of either kind of data tailored to your class material.

identifying stand alone data analysis tools that are simple enough for undergraduates to use for projects.

making an informational presentation on the applications for either GIS or numeric data customized to your discipline.

looking over your assignment using GIS or numeric data and identify areas in which students may have difficulty.

Would you like to use communication tools such as wikis in your course?

___ WolfWikis - This wiki service is available for NCSU faculty, staff, and students. A wiki is a website that simplifies the process of creating web pages and allows documents to be developed and edited in a collaborative mode. See WolfWikis: Information for Faculty.
