Borrowing content for Your Own eBook reader

What options are available for borrowing (rather than purchasing) eBooks for your own eBook reader?

If you want to borrow popular titles to use on an eBook reader that you own, a good option is to take advantage of the Overdrive
program offered through the Wake County Public Library System. Overdrive "loans" eBooks to library users as whole books that "disappear" at the end of the loan period. Overdrive is now compatible with Amazon Kindles, as well as Nooks and many other eBook reading devices. To use this service, you must have a compatible eBook reader and a Wake County library card.

If you have an Amazon Kindle or a Barnes & Noble Nook, new websites such as Kindle Lending Club (now BookLending.com), LendInk, Lendle, and eBookFling, help facilitate members sharing purchased eBooks with each other.

Can you read NCSU Libraries eBook and e-journal content using your own eBook reader?

Our eBook and e-journal collections consist primarily of scholarly content, and are optimized for reading on computer screens. For the most part, this content can be downloaded in PDF format. PDFs can be read on most devices including both Kindles and Nooks, BUT, the resulting PDF will be an image, not text, and not optimized for eBook readers. You will need to do the best you can to adjust the size of the PDF in your eBook reader so that you can read it.
