NC Geologic Maps

The NC Geologic Survey (NCGS) has scanned it's holdings of hundreds of geologic maps covering North Carolina. The originating sources for these maps are the USGS, NCGS, and theses and dissertations. The map images were georeferenced by NCSU Libraries and compressed into MrSID format as part of the NC Geospatial Data Archiving Project.

The map images in .sid format, world files, and other project documentation files such as spreadsheets and powerpoints can all be downloaded from the NCGS Geologic Map Catalog. Non-compressed TIFF versions of the maps are available from Data Services.

Metadata for each map file has been created and are included in this zipfile (1.3 MB). All the map images and documentation will be compiled onto a DVD for release in the future.

For questions about these maps and the scanning/georeferencing project, contact Data Services.
