Scope/content
This collection contains general records of the provost's office relating to UNC Program Review, graduate programs, and administration. There are several folders on the review of North Carolina State University's colleges and academic degree programs. Other materials concern faculty and course evaluations.
The collection includes multiple detailed reports covering the administrative and departmental reviews of the individual colleges, the instructional and research programs, and the leadership for each academic division within the university. Also included in the collection are the correspondence, letters, and memoranda between the chancellor's office, the vice provost and various deans related to the departmental reviews and program evaluation. Additionaly, the collection includes assorted proposals for the development and addition of new instructional and academic programs within the individual colleges, such as the development of a technical writing degree within the English department or the addition of Master's degree programs in Education.
The materials date from 1958 to 1990, with a break in the records from 1991 to 1999, and the years 2000 to 2002. The bulk of the records date from the 1960s and 1970s. Some of the correspondence included in this collection is related to the activities of student organizations, such as student government, a prime example being the correspondence between the chancellor's office and Cathy Sterling, the student body president from 1970-1971.
