The records of the North Carolina State University Office of Finance and Administration, Real Estate Office currently consist of materials relating to the Chinqua-Penn Plantation, which was formerly owned by the university, but has since been sold. Types of materials include correspondence, financial files, information on the property and activities taking place there, and audiovisual materials.
The Real Estate and Development Office within the Office of Finance and Administration is responsible for the stewardship, management and development of the university’s real estate portfolio, including Centennial Campus.

The Chinqua-Penn Plantation House, located near Reidsville in Rockingham County, was a gift to the North Carolina State University System in 1959. In 1986, the care and mainentance was transferred to North Carolina State University. The Office of Finance and Business's Real Estate Office oversaw the management, appraisal, lease agreements, and eventual marketing and sale of the property in 2006.
The records of the North Carolina State University Real Estate Office currently consist of materials relating to the Chinqua-Penn Plantation, which was formerly owned by the university, but has since been sold. Types of materials include correspondence, financial files, information on the property and activities taking place there, and audio/visual materials. Materials range in date from 1980-2004, with one item from 1932 also present.
The records of the Real Estate Office at North Carolina State University currently consists of one series of materials containing records of the university's ownership of the Chinqua-Penn Plantation.

The collection is organized into three principal series:
The Chinqua-Penn Plantation Series is divided into the following four sub-series: Property Management, Inventory and Appraisal, Lease, and Marketing and Sales. Materials within this series consist of correspondence, reports, photographs, leases and aggreements, as well as architectural drawings, brochures, and marketing publications. This series reflects Nroth Carolina State University's maintenance of the Chinqua-Penn Plantation, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, until its sale. The University opened Chinqua-Penn to the public, as desired by Mrs. Penn, between 1966 and 1991. Chinqua-Penn Foundation, Inc., a private non-profit, under a lease from the State of North Carolina, provided public tours until 2002. With the termination of the lease, economic conditions and debt led to its marketing and sale. Materials within the Chinqua-Penn series range in date from 1932 to 2006.
The Property Management subseries contain correspondence, reports and assessments relating to the management of the Chinqua-Penn Plantation during the time that the property was administered by the North Carolina State University's Office of Finance and Business. Included in this subseries is information relating to the appointment of a director, maintenance and repairs to the property, and conservation blueprints. In addition, a detailed history of the plantation and the Schoellkopfs' family history is included in these records. Materials in the Property Management subseries range in date from 1986 to 2003.

The Inventory and Appraisal subseries is arranged by appraisal or inventory date. This subseries contains appraisal and inventory reports and photographs of the Chinqua-Penn Plantation. These reports list household furnishings, furniture, and tools and equipment of the plantation. Included in these reports are art and antique decorative art objects. Photographs that are included were taken for the 1958 appraisal. Materials in the Appraisal and Inventory subseries range in date from 1932-2006.

The Lease subseries consists of correspondence, reports, leases and agreements with the Chinqua-Penn Foundation as well as separate maintenance agreements. Also included is a proposed Farmer's Market in Rockingham county, on the Upper Peidmont Research Station. Materials in the Lease subseries range in date from 1992 to 2002.

The Marketing and Sales subseries contains correspondence, architectural drawings, maps, financial reports, marketing publications, brochures, photographs, and digital media relating to the Chinqua-Penn Plantation's marketing and sale while it was administered by North Carolina State University. Included in this subseries are property listings and reality publications by nationally known agencies such as Christie's Great Estates and Sotheby's International Realty, as well as local real estate agencies. Materials in the Marketing and Sales subseries range in date from 1987 to 2006.
