            <abstract id="ref3" label="Abstract">Presbyterian minister and former North Carolina State University faculty member Donald Woods Shriver, Jr. (1927 - ) received his B.A. from Davidson College in 1951, his B.D. from Union Theological Seminary in 1955, his S.T.M. from Yale University Divinity School in 1957, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1963. Shriver began his career at N.C. State in 1962 as the Presbyterian University Minister. He joined the N.C. State faculty in 1964 as the director of Experimental Study of Religion in Society at the School of Liberal Arts under a grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, and held this position until 1968. In 1965, Shriver became an adjunct assistant professor of religion, and became an associate professor of religion, as well as the director of the University Program on Science and Society, in 1968.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Presbyterian minister and former North Carolina State University faculty member Donald Woods Shriver, Jr. (1927 - ) received his B.A. from Davidson College in 1951, his B.D. from Union Theological Seminary in 1955, his S.T.M. from Yale University Divinity School in 1957, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1963. Shriver began his career at N.C. State in 1962 as the Presbyterian University Minister. He joined the N.C. State faculty in 1964 as the director of Experimental Study of Religion in Society at the School of Liberal Arts under a grant from the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation, and held this position until 1968. In 1965, Shriver became an adjunct assistant professor of religion, and became an associate professor of religion, as well as the director of the University Program on Science and Society, in 1968. Professional memberships throughout his career include the American Society of Christian Ethics, the Society for Religion in Higher Education, and the Society for Scientific Study in Religion, and the American Civil Liberties Union. His publications include

                <title ns2:href="" render="italic" type="simple">An Ethic For Enemies: Forgiveness in Politics</title> (Oxford University Press, 1995 and 1997), and 
                <title ns2:href="" render="italic" type="simple">Honest Patriots</title> (Oxford University Press, 2005). He is a former president of the Union Theological Seminary in New York, was a Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin from January until May 1999.</p>
