ProcessingProcessed by: Special Collections Research Center Staff;machine-readable finding aid created by: Cate Putirskis; updated by Aaron Cusick Scope and Content NoteThe contents of this collection primarily focus on James Fulton Lutz's involvement with the Soil Science department in the School (later College) of Agriculture and Life Sciences and North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in general, represented in administrative paperwork Lutz kept pertaining to these topics. There are also a significant number of files from other organizations of which Lutz was a member (the Soil Science Society of North Carolina, Soil Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy), as well as some files containing correspondence, research notes, and articles for publication. The majority of all materials are dated between 1940 and 1970. Biographical NoteJames Fulton Lutz (b.1907) served as a professor of Soil Science in the North Carolina State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences from 1932 to 1985. During this time, Lutz also served on various departmental and university-wide committees, and was a member of the Soil Science Society of North Carolina, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Society of Agronmy. Lutz conducted research within the field of agronomy and published several articles based on that research. Lutz was born in Newton, North Carolina, on 23 November 1907. He received a B.S. degree from North Carolina State College (later North Carolina State University) in 1929. He received the M.A. in 1930 and the Ph.D. in 1934, both from the University of Missouri.
