            <abstract id="ref2" label="Abstract">The materials contained in this collection include correspondence, newsclippings, research materials and photographs documenting the life and work of Emmett Brown Morrow, a horticultural scientist and professor at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University).</abstract>
            <abstract id="ref3" label="Abstract">Professor Emmett Brown Morrow (1896 - 1956) was born in Rowan County, North Carolina and was one of nine children. He graduated from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1921, with a B.S. degree and earned an M.S. degree from the University of California in 1924. He worked as a horticultural scientist and professor at North Carolina State College from 1926 to 1956.</abstract>

            <head>Biographical Note</head>
            <p>Professor Emmett Brown Morrow (1896-1956) was born in Rowan County, North Carolina and was one of nine children. After graduating from North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1921 with a B.S. degree, he went on to receive an M.S. degree from the University of California in 1924. He worked in the Market Division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, 1924-1925, and the Agricultural Extension Service, 1925-1936. He continued his research in developing strawberry and blueberry varieties at the North Carolina Experiment Station. He also served as a Research Professor at North Carolina State College from 1926 to 1956. Professor Morrow is most noted for his work in developing strawberry varieties: Albritton, Earlibelle, and a blueberry variety: Morrow, so named in recognition of his work.</p>

            <head>Scope and Content Note</head>
            <p>This collection reflects Emmett Brown Morrow's work with State College Extension Service and the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station. He is noted for developing new varieties of strawberries such as the Albritton and the Earlibelle, formerly tested as NC 2486, and blueberry varieties such as NC 678 which was eventually named "MORROW" recognizing his contribution to its development.</p>

                    <p>This series documents the personal life of Emmett Brown Morrow, including biographical and bibliographic material in 
                        <title ns2:href="" render="italic" type="simple"> The Strawberry - History, Breeding, and Physiology</title>, by George M. Darrow, his obituary, letters of condolence written to his wife, Ann, and letters of recognition from contemporaries in the field of horticulture with accompanying news clippings. Also included are press releases from the United States Department of Agriculture and the North Carolina Agricultural Experiment Station announcing new strawberry and blueberry varieties developed by Professor Morrow and four photographs: Morrow as a young man; a 1951 photo of Morrow used in 
                        <title ns2:href="" render="italic" type="simple">Blueberry Bonanza, </title>with "Research Recognition," an article about Morrow and his research, and two more depicting strawberry varieties Albritton and Earlibelle.</p>
