An introduction to BLAST (molecular biology tool)
Dr. Peter Cooper of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) will present a brief tutorial covering the basics of using NCBI BLAST
and related sequence analysis tools. Dr. Cooper will give an overview of BLAST databases and programs, explain important features of the search interface, and demonstrate BLAST extensions, and improvements. The tutorial will also highlight new services including the COBALT
multiple alignment tool and Primer-BLAST, a PCR primer designer with BLAST specificity checker. Guided examples will show how get the most useful results from the BLAST and related sequence similarity search tools. Registrants will be able to do hands-on work in the computer classroom during the webinar.
This workshop is open to NCSU faculty, researchers, and students who study molecular biology topics.
